How to amend a sloping topographic surface to accommodate a new structure below the natural ground level with cut and fill information. The Pad command does not provide cut and fill information. The Graded Region command distorts the topography, we are not able to produce a clean vertical cut into the ground. What are we doing wrong? can someone help? many thanks

I've not worked with extracting cut and fill information but I do have a couple of ideas that may help. Have you tried adding some spot elevations to control your graded regions. There is no reason why you can't add a control point along an existing contour at the contour elevation. You can then add another spot right next to it but xx' apart in vertical elevation. By doing this at each contour line in the affected area, you can have a graded region with near vertical cuts. I think you may want to try multiple phases - One phase to cut for the building and extracts the cut/fill information - and a final grading phase that uses pads for your final model. Please let us know what finally works for you.
