Please help, I have created a new window family to suit my project and have sucessfully inserted the new windows into the ground floor walls and being able to adjust them using the dimensions that are visible when the component is selected.

However when I insert the same window into the first floor wall it doesn't show any dimensions to allow me to locate it in relation to another wall.  It only show the flip tools.

Am I just being really thick and accidentally toggles something off either on the wall or the plan??

The dimension you are creating in the family editor are exposed in the project by clicking on the window and adjusting the type and instance parameters which drive the geometry in the family you created.

The window family when inserted into a project can be located explictly by using the temporary dimensions that Revit provides, or simply adding a dimension and then clicking on the window and changing the dimension string to what you want it to be.  If you are not getting the temporary dimension or are having difficulty dimensioning the window you are probably lacking the proper reference planes within the family that allow for dimensioning.

Post again if you are still stuck.
