Can anyone advise how I can vary the symbolic lines within a family.

The family is a filing cabinet which varies in the number of drawers 2- 3- 4 etc. But retains the same look in plan view. Depending on the quantity of drawers in that family type I to place a symbol to reflect this . Say 2 lines for 2 drawers, 3 lines for 3 and so on. Can symbolic lines be associated & displayed with a particular family type ? or is this one for the wish list???

Thanks

Yes this can be done using a parameter linked to the visibility of the lines. Keep in mind thought that you may have to create new parameter for each drawer/door configuration you add.

Start by drawing in the symbolic lines for the 2 drawer option, then associate them with a vibility parameter [select the lines>go to properties>then click the small grey box at the end of the "visible" line [after the check box] > new parameter window will open> create a parameter for 2 drawers and apply the new parameter].  Repeat these same steps for options for 3 drawers and 4 drawers.

Now these parameters can be controlled just like any other parameter [either through the Family Types dialouge in the family editor OR through the properties window of the family when it is loaded into a project].

If the options will build on each other, i.e. the 3 drawer option splits the lower drawer of the 2 drawer option, then you would only need to draw the 3rd drawer line and associate the 3 drawer option with that [just make sure to keep the 2 drawer parameter checked].
