Is there any way of using a dimension and overwriting the dimension with text. (i.e. Im dimensioning two walls but id like to write a note there instead of the actual dimension.) Does anybody know a way of doing so besides making the text 1/256 size and putting a text box over top of this with the text i need?!?!

In the  properties dialog of the dimension in question, you can add a suffix or prefix.  The value however is fixed.  You can do a couple of things if the actual dim is close to what you want it to say.  Either make a new dim style that rounds to the value that you want, or use a thin line.  You can draw a thin line wherever you want, and dimension to that line.  If the actual value and the desired value are completely different, then you'll have to explore different options.  You could just draw a solid fill region over the dim, and type text on top of that.

I hope one of these answers works for you.  Let me know how it goes.

Another way is to use a blank font for your dimension text. This was suggested to me so I can't take credit for it. I can however post the blank font.

This was created by someone on AUGI. Have look, it should do what you want but it isn't a real dimension though.

I created a dimension style with a very small text height. Then I used a text note with an opaque background to mask out the dimension length text with a note.
