Have you ever been to the West Coast? Cali, Oregon, Wash.? If not you should come check it out. I love it out here.

YOU GUYS NEED TO TAKE THIS TO "PRIVATE MESSAGE"......AND NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED THREAD, " BEST PLACE TO BE AN ARCHITECT"the best place to be an architect is NYC. Everything is here. I disagree with the previous poster about the West Coast, there is no way to get around without a car in most places. Not too environmentally responsible. Public transportation is inadequate except in SanFrancisco, maybe. My friends worked for SOM in both places, East and West. Another group of my friends came back and could not take the traffic of LA. The thing is, when my friends from NY went out to CA, they were 5 times faster than anyone in the office there, in everything. They moved up the ranks quickly. There are people that are 35, been practicing for 12 years and are still a first level architect.Why do you think that if you have a license in NY, it is good anywhere , without re-taking the exam (except for Seismic, because we don't have that in NY)If you can deal with the stresses of city living, NYC is it. There is so much to do, so much to seeWest coast is running at half-pace. Some people like that, and don't like stress. There is such a competition over here in the city that if you don't keep up, you will fade away. It keeps you on top, and then when you want to go anyplace else, you will excel. Cooper Union Architecture school is a bit overrated, but if you have good grades, you can go for FREE here. ALSO, please explain what about "Miami Architecture" it is that you enjoy, maybe I just don't see it. What I enjoy about Miami Architecture is the beach bikini babes that frequent the buildings, but that is just me.

See now I disagree with even that. First off, feel free to post just to say hello and to just make random talk. I first felt that it was bad form to talk about eachothers jeeps on here but I think its cool that we can talk about other things and get to know eachother better. If the admins havnt said anything about posting off topic, I think it is fine then. Like you said back to the post though....the best place for an Architect, I would say NYC isnt it. The West is, Im not just saying Cali though. Colorado, Arazona, and Nevada are the fastest growing states in the nation. Phonix, Vegas, and Denver have all been growing faster than nearly any city...that is where you are going to find jobs, not NYC. You dont want to go work at a place that has great Architecture but isnt growing, the best city for Architecture is the ones with room to grow. If you can deal with the stress in NYC, what about the windy city Chicago, lot of stress there. The place for architecture no matter what feild (homes, comercial, towers) is in the West. The front range of Colorado is nearly city all the way from New Mexico to Wyoming. Vegas has been a booming city, and so is Phonix. Dont disreguard the west, NYC would be a great opurtunity, but the future of urbanization is not in NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, LA or any of thoes. You want a future and have opurtunity to do ANYTHING and any type of building the West (Denver, Phonix, Vegas) is where its at.
