Is it possible to add text to a 3d component/family in floor plan and elevation and make the text visible once the component has been loaded into a project. It does not work for me because the text is seen as a drafting element it seems.

Component loads fine into a project, but without the text.

 Any trix/ideas?

Have you tried using Model Text? You will have to select the work plane first you wish to attach it to. This is a 3d text format, so you can decrease the depth of the font if it protrudes out too far.

The problem with 3d text is that it is model text and will be stay the same size relative to the model, not the drawing.

Have you considered making it into a tag?? Tags are a lot quicker to use and edit when it comes to text than if you had to try and do inside a family. You could also just make an annotation family.
