I am working on a Hotel project in the Schematic Phase.  I am using groups to copy around a typical room plan.  When I edit that group I can move the walls, change their base/top constraints etc.. and when I'm finished it re-populates that change in every instance of the group throughout the model!  That's awesome.... but there's one problem.

There's one constraint that does not re-populate every group instance.  It's the "attached and detach" command.  I want my walls to attach to the slab above so that when I "flex" the model everything moves together, but when I go into the group editing function and attach the walls of that group to the deck above it only does it in the one being edited.  It does not re-populate for every group instance.  Do I have to go into all 200 group instances now to attach my walls to the deck above?

 Thanks.....

Rather than 'attaching' the top of the walls to the slab it is probably better to have them have a top offset from a level a negative amount. [example: if your slab is 8" thick then do a -8" top offset]  The only downside is that if your slab thickness changes you have to remember to adjust the top of wall offset.  Alternatively you could establish a new level call 'top of wall - floor 1' 'top of wall - foor 2' etc. and dimension and lock those levels to the top of slab.  The walls in the group when then have a top level constraint set to your new levels created.  If the slab thickness changes yu can go to an eleveation or section and adjust the top of walls levels there and the walls will update.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'm probably going to go back to the negative offset idea to avoid placing extra levels into the model.  I was trying to attach to the slab above because I wanted to try and trick the groups into existing on levels of different floor to floor heights.  For examples I wanted Group A to exisit on level 1-8 which was 10' floor to floor and then also have the same Group A also be on level 9 which is the penthouse level of 12' floor to floor.

If you use the negative offset of 8 inches when you get up to level 9 the group will automatically adjust itself to show an offset of 2 feet.  This forces me to now create another group (ex: Group A.1) for that penthouse level.  That is going to double my 20 different room types to 40 now just because of the parameters in the Z plane.  Which is what makes this so ironic.  Revit is being very constrictive about making sure the height parameters are the same throughout in a group.  Yet there is this little bug where you can trick one single instance of a group to "attach or detach" to the top or bottom without it forcing every instance of that group to follow.  I was hoping I could use this discovery to my advantage.

Thanks for the input!
