When downloading all the fancy autocad models like cars, chairs etc and importing these into Revit I find that the PC slows down considerably without enlarging the file all that much.

When rendering these imported models in Revit the colours tend to be monochrome and un-editable.

Is there a way to import these models, have the PC operate at an acceptable speed and change the render materials at will?

Thanks.

I believe you must have your models set to bylayer and bycolor to easily change the materials. The materials you should be able to change in the object styles of the settings menu under the imported tab.

The slowness I would think would be attributed to the amount of polygons in the model adding to the file. I don't think Revit is really made for importing high poly count models or even really medium poly counts. I have taken a model from Revit into Max and you can easily rotate the model around without any slowdown.
