Does anybody know how to get a dimension line to show alternate dimesions (imperial and metric)? ie. 10'-0" (3048mm)

I think if worse comes to worse, you can either manually type it in (not a good answer) or select the dimension and enter a formula in the suffix section converting the inches to mm's in parenthesis (another not good idea, very manual) I don't know if there's a way to have this done by type or not. Wish I had better information for you.

It is not something that Revit can do. The best I can come up with is to place two dimensions on top of each other, one using the project units [say imperial] and then another defined as metric that does not use the project units but over-rides them to metric. You have to move the text of one or both dimensions from on top of one another and add the prefix/suffix of your choice. The other option is to have the two dimension styles and create two views one metric and another imperial. Dimension one view then copy/paste the dimensions to the other view and change them to the other dimension style. You can then place each view onto a sheet on top of each other or seperately. If on top of each other then yu would have to move the dimesnion text in one of the views.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has a solution to this glaring omission ever been implemented by Revit? I have a project now that requires us to show imperial and metric dimensions, and their example shows it thusly: 10'-0" (3.048m). So I don't think they will like it to have two dimension strings for each dimension. Not to mention how messy the plans will get. I have RS2011 and can't seem to find any way to do this.

Sorry, almost four years later the answer is still the same. Revit cannot do alternate dimensions like AutoCAD. The only other option now I can add is export to ACAD for dimensioned plans now that the CAD exports from Revit preserve dimensions. In earlier days they cam out as lines, tick and text.

Unless someone builds an add on to do this, your optios are: - Use two strings
- Use text for one of the trailing dimension.
Now for the out of the box answer..... Use two strings with them both in the same place and spread the text apart.... Darn ... Tom beat me to it....and I see the out of the box he already had too.
