Hi I just want start by saying this site is great. I just started getting into BIM and Revit and all your threads have really helped.

I'm new to Revit and just going through the basics right now but what I really wanted to know more about is real-time updating. From the reading I've done on parametric software I've got it in my mind that I can link things in a way that if I pull one object the attached objects will react to the changes. This is for a project I'm doing right now in school.

I basically want to use Revit to present a model being updated in real-time in front of the jury. Is this even possible? For example, a platform that is on top of four ibeam posts, what I want to be able to do is to drag or rotate the platform and see the posts realigning themselves according to the constraints that I apply. At a certain length I want them to switch to become bigger i-beams.

I'm looking into families right now.  Really all I want to know if it is possible and a general direction to look into.

Any help would be appreciated.

TY!

Hi,

Yes its possible to a point.  Revit will not up the size of your I-beams automatically though, you'll need to do this manually.

Your best to investigate structural beam systems and associating them to workplanes as well as setting workplanes.  You'll find you won't be using the rotate command to do the rotating, rather changing workplanes or rotating the actual work plane, such as a reference plane or line.
