Is it possible to create a "freeform" (in plan) wall?

I am trying to model an historic building which has very irregular walls. What I would ideally like to do is to draw the plan of the walls and then extrude it to the correct height.

The only work around I can come up with is to create these irregular sections of the wall with an "Extrusion" Mass Object. But it then obviously does not behave as a wall (ie cannot host doors / windows / does not join with adjacent walls / does not bound rooms / etc)

Is it possible to do what I am after and have the object behave as a proper wall?

Man thanks,

Ian

Try doing an "in-place" family by going to the Modeling tab>Create> choose "Walls" as your category then use an extrusion as you described.

When I've tried this, the wall does not behave as a wall ... doesn't host objects.

Many thanks for the advice- worked a treat. And it hosts doors, windows, etc.

Regards,

Ian
