Hi all...   Longtime AutoCad user, started with v2.52 (!)  on an XT.  though we had something back then...  Now I hear that the powers that be are looking into going to Revit. I'm now senior hvac designer, and along with 20+ years of CAD, get to put my .02 in on whether to go with it or not....  Just trying to educate myself on the package.

Welcome.......

My .02 is that if you don't know Revit you won't be relevant in the marketplace in 3-5 years.  I started of on AutoCAD ver 2.9 back in 1987.  Thought AutoCAD was the best thing ever invented until I saw Revit four years ago.  Now I wouldn't work for anyone that forced me to use AutoCAD.

The Revit package you want to look at is Revit Systems which is the MEP version.  Revit Systems actually gives use both Building Systems which is AutoCAD based and Revit Systems which of course is Revit based.

I suggest to download a copy (free) and play with it and do the tutorials.

I would agree with Tom, except that instead of saying Revit I'd say "BIM"  We're biased towards Revit around here of course but we really do think it's the best of the BIM applications.  Especially now that you have Revit Building, Revit Structure, & Revit Systems all built on the same platform.

Another great thing about Revit is the community support, I could be wrong don't think there are any content & community sites like this for Bentley or Graphisoft, certainly not front & center.

So stick around we'll try to answer any questions that you have!  Smile
