I am in the process of trying to make a planting schedule for our site work.  Our plantings involve a lot of plants of different sizes, the numbers are based on area, and we need to have information affiliated with the plants, and not so much the area.  Right now, I am using a room schedule to produce my numbers like such:

Make the border of my planting area with room separation lines

Use the area of the room to calculate, say, 50% of the area to be 5gal pots, and the remaining to be 1gal, using the "Calculated Value" function

Use the resulting value to calculate how many of the 5gal and 1gal to be a specific plants (generally as many as 40 different plants)

The result of this, though, is to get a schedule that is 4 miles long horizontal, and all of my plant information is in the calculation name, rather than as a the main object where I can add parameters.  I don't even need the area names, the square footage, etc. visible in the final schedule.  I do, however, need to have fields for scientific name, common name, size, notes, and some others.

I need to "room area" to calculate my values, but what I really want is to schedule my plants by name, and add the parameter fields to it.  The only way that I can figure to do that would be to make an area, name it by the plant name, and duplicate it for as many plants as there are going to be in it.  That removes my ability to easily reshape or resize my planting area (I would have to do it, like, 40 times...  once for each plant), and I would have to hide it all in some view that I make invisible everywhere.

I don't appear to be able to just make new lines in the schedule to add plants to because the schedule wants to have one row for one object that actually refers to something in the model.  Not to mention that I would not be able to specify a proper area to the new line.  Being able to tag an area more than once (and thus, making multiple entries for the same "room"Winking would work great, but I can't do that either.

I am running Revit Building 8.1 right now.  If anyone has some suggestions or some schedule pointers, that would be great.  Thanks in advance for any help.

That smiley face was supposed to be a right parenthesis...  I can't figure out how to edit my message, though.

Not clear what you're doing.  You can right clik in the schedule and select which fields to show or hide
