I have an architectural column attached to a wall.  They are both in an existing phase.  My walls are generic brick.  I want my columns to be joined with the walls because I want them to read as one in plan and I want them to be brick in elevation.  The problem is when I am in a new phase the wall hatch goes away like I want it to but the column hatch stays.  Is there a way to get around that other than detaching the columns and adding a surface material but also having it showed as a joined element in plan.
