Fairly new to Revit and VERY new to this forum- so please bear with me!

I am trying to creat some 2D symbols for various furniture items- in order to carry out space-planning exercises.

I don't want to use the in-biuit libray.

I need to make various rectabgles with reference codes on them (for the model numbers, etc)

I know the very basics of creating a family element from scratch. I can create the 2D and 3D geometry. But I want to add the reference text, so that it appears in plan views only. All I can find to add text is "Model Text". The normal Text option in the Family Editor produces text that doesn't show up in ANY view?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ian

I would approach this by creating the item then use a Type Mark or other available field such as Model to hold the information you want to display in your plan.  Then in the plan view you want to show this information "Tag" the object with a tag of the category you created the object under (i.e. Furniture or Systems Furniture).

Tags in Revit are little mini database reports that display the information of an object in the view and can be modified to show any or all of the fields in the properties of the object.

Using this method yu can them also produce a schedule of your components all added up by part number.
