Anyone experienced this problem? The color printing is very slow from Revit; it seems to spool huge files, and seems to take a very long time to spool. A 30x42 board of elevations with color and shadow created a 160mb+ file in the printer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hey...yah see the problem is that when creating any images with advanced graphic mode (shadows, color, all the good stuff) Revit has to rasterize the images first (since vector processing cant be used) and then send the images to your printer in the same operation.  Depending on how fast your machines are, and even with a quick machine, more then likely this will take awhile.  I know we have a grayscale image on one of our drawings with shadows turned on and it takes quite a few minutes to rasterize and then print.

Possibly the easiest solution I can think of is it write the image to a PDF or DWF first, and then send the PDF to the printer.  The files shouldnt be near 160mb when sent to the printer after that.  Try that and see if it helps at all.

Great response. It has taken me several searches and several weeks of frustration to realize this was happening and to unclick rasterize on my printer driver. I used to rasterize everyting when I printed from Revit 2012 (just a bad habiot formed from color printing with hatches) and it was never a problem so naturally, this was not the first place I checked. Thank you!!!!

Also, when printing to PDF. when you are in the print window, under Print setup, set the "raster quality" option to medium. This is what I do. (am architect) and you get about 1 meg files that are pretty decent in terms of "architecturalness"

I bet yours is set to "presentation"

give that a try and see if you like it. I bet you will.
