I have a simple problem but i cant seem to figure it out. When i create a wall family i am able to place doors and windows in the created wall in 3D and elevation but not in plan. Is this normal?

I saw your posting and couldn't help but to try to replicate it.....and no it's not normal. I could not replicate the problem, even with the visibility off it allowed me to place the items.

HAVE YOU TRIED TO CHANGE THE VIEW RANGE UNDER PROPERTIES?

Did anyone ever resolve this problem???
I too cannot place doors & windows into an 'in place wall family' It will let me do it in the 3D view, but not in plan. Once I get the door into the wall family in the 3D view, I can then see it in plan and move it around and everything.
It is really frustrating.

This has always been the case. Doors and windows cannot be placed in plan for in-place walls and must be inserted in 3D and then adjusted.
I don't see it as too much of a problem, its about 15 seconds of extra effort and its not something i'd imagine you woud have to do very often...
