is ther worksets involved? if not you can retrieve the data using a journal file to recreate all the work you did in that session. The journal file is basically a record that is kept of everything you do. they are located in the installation directory in the journals folder. find the one you crashed in. backup all files worked on in this session!! now drag the journal file onto the revit icon and it will start playing the journal. hopefully it will stop at the end without a crash and you'll be able to save your work. hth.

very interesting, I have tried this on many occasions but somehow revit always close after playing the journal file. So you cannot save what revit just created in front of your eyes. I was hoping someone knows how to tweak the txt journal file (possible EOF at the end) so revit would stop but not close thus enabling you to save the creation from the dataset???

yes you can edit the jornal file so that revit will stay open
first make a copy of your jornal file
i normallly place my copy on my desktop.
scrool to the bottom of the jornal file which you should open in note pad not word and find this section.

**************************************************************************************************************
Jrn.Command "Menu" , "Close the active project , 57602 , ID_REVIT_FILE_CLOSE"
' 0:>>Save Document -- starting
' 0:<<Save Document -- Elapsed Time: 0.000000 seconds

Jrn.Command "SystemMenu" , "Quit the application; prompts to save projects , 57665 , ID_APP_EXIT"

' [TKY] null m_pCmdInfo

' 2 journal(s) aged out.

' 06-Oct-2006 12:37:46.265; finished recording journal file
***************************************************************************************************
and delete it then resave the jornal file
then drag it onto the revit icon.

you need to delete everything up as far as *************Jrn.Command "Menu" , "Close the active project , 57602 , ID_REVIT_FILE_CLOSE"******************

i use it a lot and it works great.

Hi Corred, yes you are right that you should delete all text below the line " Jrn.Command "Menu" , "Close the active project , 57602 , ID_REVIT_FILE_CLOSE" " but as i stated eariler make a copy of the file first. SORRY i forgot to say this and it is important! make a copy of your rvt's that you are working on aswell incase it doesn't work. hope it works for you.

was working on a filw form a workset, and after all day work, revit crashed and asked me if i wanted to save as recovery, i said yes, but then i can't find the recovery file. i did search on widnows, and a shortcut to the recobery exist, but not the file.  I also tried using teh journal file but it stops at a very early stage like 12 hour ago.  Does anyone know where so recovery file could be? why did it disapear?

If the recovery is successful, the recovery file will be in the same place as the original but with recovery in the name.  Sometimes the recovery file just can't be made so you get nothing.  In that case, you have to revert to an earlier version.
