Change the thickness of the wide line in the"line styles" setting, and create there new line styles as much as you need. I have created a line style for every pen weight - so i know what to use at drafting to get a certain weight.

This can be done quite easily. The confusing thing is in families linestyles are not controlled in the linestyle settings, they are controlled in the object styles. So if you create a new objectstyle in your object style settings and set the appropriate linetype and weight then new linestyles will be available for use of the same name. I wouldn't suggest changing the wide lines in the family, as typically this object style is already set in projects and when you load it into a project the amended lineweight will not be updated, so you'd have to update your template file with thi. HTH.
