I have noticed this also... I have found that when that message comes up I run thru the same loading procedure except I pick the "model" pattern option. and they load fine. I think it depends on where the pattern was created. (either drafting or modeling)...

i think the patterns have to be designated as model or drafting
here is question 8 from the Revit Rants blog
8. How do I change a model pattern to a drafting pattern or vice versa?
Edit the PAT file using notepad and add or change the following values:
;%TYPE=MODEL for model or
;%TYPE=DRAFTING for drafting.
You can also set the units with the following operator:
;%UNITS=MM to set to millimetres…

Hi,
Another one for hatch patterns-
How do I change the scale for custom hatch patterns?

How do you workaround this error when units and type are set in the pattern file yet revit still misunderstands it?

Remember , when you import a pattern file, Revit gives yhou a scale option so your units are only relative.
Set that scale factor correct and you will have the correct scaled pattern.

That pattern contains errors. You'll find
1. the seventh item on the first pattern line is not a number
Fix that and you'll find the pattern will then load but then
2. A vertical lne is duplicated.
Revit could be a little more forthcoming as to where the problem lies.
Note that the HatchKit Add-In for Revit can change a loaded pattern between MODEL and DRAFTING types without needig to edit the source text definition or reloading.
