I have linked .dwg files into revit then dimensioned components of the CAD file within revit. When the .dwg file is modified and reloaded, all of the revit dimensions are deleted, regardless of weather or not they are associated with a component that has been modified. Has anyone found a way around this?
Thanks-

unfortunately the only options we could come up with are reference planes everywhere, or just dimensioning the plan in AutoCAD before bringing it into Revit.

Now using Revit 2009 and just discovered this issue. Wondering if by any chance this issue has been resolved with some kind of option in newer versions? This thread is a few years old so I thought I would check in on it. Thanks, KS

This thread is a few years old so I thought I would check in on it. Thanks, KS " the work around to prevent this from happening is to create a workset just for the linked file. import/link the cad file into the workset.now when you dimension to the components of the cad file and the cad file is modified and reloaded as a workset process the dimensions should remian and not be deleted because the updating. the dimesion are not in the workset. you are dimensioning to objects in a workset i can't remember which company at AU 2008 present this, but that's what they do as standard practice now to prevent the disappearing dimension problem. i think it was KlingStubbins and something about Large Projects in Revit.

Is there any way to change the workset of an existing imported/linked AutoCad model so we do not lose all of our dimensions? We have a flooring layout imported from Cad and dimensioned in Revit and now need to reload the link and will be losing about 300 dimension strings. We're using Revit 2010 Any help would be great! Thanks

A new Workset was created which includes only the Autocad linked file. The dimensions are part of a different workset. Even with this separation between worksets, the dimensions are still be deleted upon the reload of the Autocad linked file. Please advise.

Unfortunately I am haveing the same issue here. I'm running Revit Building Suite 2013, with linked revit models (this is a project with multiple buildings) and cad files (details). I seems like whenever I modify something in one of the linked files , even if unrelated to the dimension strings, my dimensions disappear. This is really disconcerting...hope this get's resolved very quickly.
