I was told previous about there are some 3rd party software or plug-in into revit. In Autodesk publishing also mentioned about some green architectural design software which can be plug in into revit. Has anybody try them before? Appreciate if somebody can share more on this. I am particularly interested in plug-ins for facility management & property management. If there were such of those plug-ins, mind sharing! Thanks first

I have earlier on Revitcity suggested that perhaps a group of people could build a new "Revit"
on http://sourceforge.net/
But it is a little way to go... Someones ready to go for a little work???

Revit has no API. Pre-acquisition, the Revit company strongly implied it never would have an API; post-acquisition, Autodesk has discussed the possibility of some kind of API to certain unspecified applications, but has not announced any specific roadmap for doing so. At present, Revit doesn't even work and play that well with other software in the Autodesk family. As of Release 5.1 Revit reads and writes DWG in AutoCAD 2004 format. However, Revit is less interoperable with Autodesk Architectural Studio (AAS) than is ADT (which has a "save as AAS" command). Revit can't do much of anything with the custom objects and multi-view blocks that embody the intelligence of ADT, nor can ADT comprehend much of the intelligence in Revit. Autodesk VIZ can't render a Revit model--nor can any "external" renderer, which is one reason Revit has always included Accurender from Robert McNeel

Revit is a closed system. It is not possible to write plugins for Revit! Why? Here is a discussion from 2003 perhaps someone can find newer links:

Green Building XML is a part of Revit
you can export Revit as gbXML
But is anyone using it?
Here is their home:
http://www.gbxml.org/
And they are cooperating with
http://www.iai-na.org/news/iaina_news.php
And they have some news from sept 2004 so perhaps it is not dead---
Planning IFC Building Info Model, GSA Contracts With NIBS/IAI [September 22, 2004]

WASHINGTON, DC—Having set a 2006 target date to start using standardized Building Information Models (BIMs) based on IFCs—the Industry Foundation Classes data model managed by the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI)—the U.S. General Services Administration's Public Building Service has contracted with IAI North America, a NIBS council, to help smooth the BIM transition.

And here a description of gbXML:

The GreenBuildingXML (gbXML) schema allows for a detailed description of a single building or a set of buildings for the purposes of energy and resource analysis. These analyses can be used for determining a buildings 'greenness' or its costs of operation, pollution produced, energy requirements, and health issues. It allows for data interoperability between sophisticated 3D-CAD applications and sophisticated building analysis programs such as DOE-2.2.

We're quite a bit farther down the road now and Revit API is available, although it's in its early stages...

And now we are actually there with the Revit 2008 API and plug-ins from IES/VE.
