Is it just me or is Revit's way of showing general linework pretty obtuse?
Why can't we just draw lines, be they detail or model and then choose thickness, type, end, etc.?

You can!
When "drawing" a line be sure to select the "type" from the type drop-down box (upper left of screen).
If the line already exists, select it and then change it's type. Tip:You cannot change detail lines to model lines and vice versa.
You can add and modify line definitions by going to Settings>Line Styles (be sure to expand the +)

Thanks Tom,
I knew that but somehow it seems a really awkward way to do things - What I need is a way to take a line and just alter its weight, linetype, etc without having to create another line style - our drawings are cluttered with all sorts of line styles.
Then there's the inability to have square/mitered ends to lines...
