I have created a .rfa family file and loaded it into a project. It is visible in the plan and 3D windows, however when I do a raytrace render it will not show up, even if I change it's materials. Any ideas?

What type of template did you use? Sounds like you've use a planting or entourage template? Open the family and goto settings family category and parameters and change the family category or alternatively change the rendering type option to geometrical.
