Hey all, I've done an exhaustive search online for a tutorial on how to create hatch patterns and have hit a wall. Does anybody know of any way to create hatch patterns quickly and easily? I've found the revit.pat file and good grief it makes creating hatch patterns as a very difficult drawn out process. =

If you have AutoCAD, open the ACAD.pat file with notepad. You will see tat all of the various hatch patterns are titled. Using that as a division, find and copy the AR-B816 block pattern. These patterns are basically written as pen up, pen down angles and distance - not in that order but you wont need to know for this. I don't remember which is which but I believe you should replace the 2nd #8 & th 4th #8 with a #4. That should give you a 4x16 block pattern. Rename the pattern heading and save it as a name.pat file then load it in.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try those out. I was just hoping there was another way besides the text file. I've just recently found out that there is a function in autocad that allows you to create line types. Perhaps the function to make hatch patterns in a similar manner has yet to be made. Thanks again. Kune

you can create custom patterns with a software called "HatchKit".  i downloaded it yesterday from the site http://hatchkit.cadro-pty-ltd.qarchive.org/   i havent' had the time to create any custom patterns, but it seems to be more user friendly than notepad....
