We have just switched from AutoCAD to Revit, and I am trying to get a clearer understanding of how revisions work in revit. Our old System with AutoCAD was to always save a copy of the drawing file each time a sheet was issued (separate files for each sheet), so that at any stage if a client decided to revert back to a previous version of the drawings we could simply open that file. With revit I have a basic understanding of revisions - That you can keep track of revisions through clouds and the revision schedule. Also I have read about the roll back command. However as far as i can tell the revision tracking does not allow you to revert back to a previous revision and if you use rollback all subsequent work is lost. Also how do you know which backup file you want to revert to. I don't want to have to save the entire file each time we issue a drawing as revit files are somewhat larger than individual AutoCAD files, but do wish to still retain that flexability and fallback safety I guess I am interested in hearing what other firms do to work around this problem, and if it is even a problem for others at all

I still save an archive copy at each revision point just in case. Hard drives are so cheap these days even a simple USB drive for $100 will work if you don't have room on the server. You are correct in that rolling back to a prior revision state is not automatic yet in Revit. Even if it was, sometimes you added information along the way you don't want to disapear. HTH Tom
