Is there a setting to turn on to pop up a message when someone is requesting permition to edit a workset? Because having to MANUAL check is not a good thing, because people will forget to check and will go un-answered for hours or days. I am runing Revit 9

Not yet...it is on the wishlist. Until then many use an instant messaging of some sort or just yell over the cube wall. Tom

the problem is that Revit will have to check the server or all the computers all the time to see if there is a request, now imagine an office with 50 Revit users... way too much load on the network.

I guess your office doesnt use Microsoft Exhange.
Its pretty simple to have revit check to see if there is a request pending on the central file. It would be alot lighter load on the network then your email system would be. Autocad has a notification in it if someone updates a xref and alerts others that have the xref linked of a change.

Tom thanks,
Im going to write to autodesk. But in the mean time im going to look into a inner office messanger program, not a MSN or yahoo.

so it's not to taxing a load for revit to keep track of every object in a 200mb file and if it has been altered by any other user, but having an alert system for permissions would take down a network.

yeah, I'm not really buying that one.

I guess you didnt read what i was saying. This is about Request notification alert not traking every object in the file. It could be a 2000mb file for all i care, its the alert part that if some is requesting to modify something, The alert is not taxing a load. Revit already gets the notifications, you just have to manual check it. Im saying revit could have it automaticly give the requestee an alert pop up, but it doesnt, you have ether call the person or messange them that they have a request waiting.

I believe this is what some refer to as the pot calling the kettle black.  I was agreeing with you and was pointing out, along the lines of what you posted, that revit already is performing much more taxing tasks to a network than a simple alert system that could piggyback on the system already in place.  this was contrary to what eldados had posted, which is why I quoted him as opposed to you.

settle down, beavis.

I apologize WEBB,

I didnt see your queot above. Revitcity queot box looks like the posted message box with grey top. Im doing multi tasking on 4 monitors and didnt catch it.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

Yeah your wright, i mean revit already has the program notification link to the file, its in the program itself that needs the alert pop-up.

Signing off for the day.
