I work for a timber frame company and have recently started using revit. I am currently trying to draw the joists on one of our projects and was wondering why it leaves a gap between the joist and another component (see attached drawing). Is there a way so they meet each other instead of leaving a gap??

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |

Looking at the image I would just say drag the end or edit the length parameter in the joist's properties to reflect how long it needs to be. Could you not copy the joists next to it that are the correct length? Or array them even? I arrayed mine when I did my framing plan (attachement) excluding the join and group option and it worked fine.

Thank you for your comments. The joists were done as an array but for some reason when you drag the end of the joist to meet the header it automatically snaps back and leaves a gap. I have also tried to edit the length in the properties box but the dimension is shown in a light grey colour and cannot be edited. I have the same problem when i try to put steel purlins in a project it seems to automatically snap to the middle of the wall and not the external face of the building.

from the little i've done using structure in our projects - there are two grab handles on the ends of these element, make sure you select the right one. the dot is the bit that sets what is supporting your joist, whereas the normal double triangles set the actual end of the joist. you can also exactly set this in properties.
they are great things, and we now try putting them in most projects after reading mr spot's and eldados's comments about 'building' the model. keep trying!
