i am trying to model some windows that are not in the same plane of the wall they reside in. so far the only way i have been successful is by cutting a hole in what should be the host wall, adding a new custom width wall in front of it and dropping the window into that wall. is this the best way to achieve a window offset say 6" from the wall? this issue is complicated when i have a full stud furring out the plaster finish, above a CMU wall. and the window is projecting 4-6" out beyond the face of finish. so the window is 8-10" from the face of the bearing wall.

I make it a habit with all window families i create of giving them an offset parameter to enable me to position the window in the wall as i see fit. So its probably best to modify the family if this is something you typically do. I can't suggest any workarounds for this as you'll find most of them will end up being more trouble than they're worth when changes start occuring. HTH.
