I'm trying to figure out how to create my own modelling components (custom millwork items, to be specific), but the help file doesn't tell how to begin. It tells about the editor, but it doesn't tell you how to GET TO the editor to begin creating something. I'm apparently missing something, but I don't know what. Can anyone help me?
Ultimately, I'm not trying to create a new family, just new components for within the family (in this case "Casework". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Even though you are trying to create components within a specific family you still need to create a new family. For example, if you are trying to create a custom pull for a cabinet drawer, you would first have to model the pull as a new family and then load it into the cabinet drawer family, here you would access it from the component tool on the design bar.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I cannot figure out how to save something that I have made (in our imperial library for use in future projects). I have clicked on everything that I could find hoping to save it somehow, but something just isn't working. Besides, in the Revit help file they talk about all these templates for creating a new component but I can't seem to find them either. This program is very humbling....

Hi Jason
About the family editor, if you go to "File" and choose "new" "Family" it will bring you to the templates that the help menu is talking about, only families created here will be isable in other projects, the families created as "in place families" reside only in the project where they where created. The tutorials in the software are very good to help you understand the family creation process. I hope it helps, if you are still stuck just let me know amybe I can help you some more.
