I use Revit for some construction projects, and sometimes I get problem with quantity takeoffs. In my work I do construction estimating and takeoffs, so I need numbers to be correct. But many time even small mistake in takeoff make big cost problem for project.

I want to ask, how you make sure Revit model give accurate quantity? Do you use some special method or plugin? I want to learn good way to make takeoff more easy and save time also.

Hey NoraSilas,

Where do you notice discrepancies with your takeoff numbers?

  • Do the mateterials have innacurate linear or SF numbers?
  • This could be due to how walls, floors, ceilings, etc. are modeled. So, for example, with a finish floor for a bathroom, if the floor boundaries extend beyond the interior space of the room or if it's not "cut" around fixtures like tubs, etc. then the number would be off from the actual SF coverage area.
  • Is there a discrepancy with the number of components scheduled (like number of joists/trusses, outlets, fixtures, etc.)?
  • I would imagine an issue here would be: not adding the correct number of components in the categories that have discrepancies, having components set to the wrong category so they don't schedule properly, or maybe issues with phasing or how schedules are set up.

I hope this helps and if you can provide some more context that would be great!
