I am wandering if anyone knows how to save a family that has been created in a project, into a database containing other families that were created in the family editor. any comments on the subject would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I don't think you can do that. I believe the only families you can save out of a project are families that have been loaded in, not those created in.

You can't actually save out the family. However, you can start a new external family using the same family category as the in-place family and then open the project at the same time. Edit this in-place family and then select all the elements and cut and paste into the external family.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I just called Autodesk on this one... you go to the Settings menu, Options, click on the file tab called File Locations. I created a new Library Path to begin sharing families off the server and keep everything centralized.
