the revitcity forums are mostly about students asking students how to do
things in revit and that's fine... but does anyone know if there is a place
to get revit questions answered by people that know all about revit?

You certainly can try "www.augi.com" This is the site where you will see Revit users from begining to expert levels.

If you have the revit subscrition or if you get it
you create a support request and they answer
pretty fast
