i am wanting to show a cross hatch pattern for bath's, kitchen's, foyer's. but i do not want to do a filled region for all of these. is there a way to do this by selecting the room, say the same way you would place a room tag. so that it searches the boundries out on its own rather than me having to trace with a filled reagion.

apply the fill pattern to the floor family... then make sure that visibility is on for the fill patterns

Also, If there is one floor going over multiple rooms you will need to use the split face tool to split the surface of the floor to individual segments and then use the paint tool to apply the appropriate materials to the corresponding rooms...
