Here's the story. Hard drive crashed on my laptop (had backups as it was acting up). Replaced the hard drive, re-installed Windows, back up and running. Curious, I installed the old, "damaged" hard drive in an enclosure and connected it to my laptop. It came up immediately and seemed to be working. However, none of my files were in the User folder, nor were any of the programs I know were installed. Most of the files had the original date/time stamp around 2015 when the computer was made. Only two or three files had a more recent date/time stamp (2019). I called the laptop manufacturer, but they "cannot help with restoring files". Any thoughts out there?
