Has anyone used AREA PLANS for a projects main plans and Apartment Unit Layouts? i'm doing a fairly large multi unit project and the client wants to see the areas in the apartment units on both floor plans, but he wants the areas from center to center of demising walls, outside face of sheathing on the exterior wall and inside face of hallway wall.
this can't be accomplished using Room Areas, so i'm thinking of using Area Plans instead.
Is there any down side in doing this?
thanks in advance!

Area plans would be a poor choice.
Turn off room bounding for your walls and add room seperation lines, then the room areas will be as you want them.

i've been using revit for a logn time, and everytime i've done it that way I feel like we get tons of errors and the walls dont always join properly when room separation lines are on top of walls
so i need a reason why its a poor choice

I have never seen the problems you have had. Read Steve Stafford's answer here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/room-separation-lines-affect-wall-joins/m-p/7677052#M177271
I just re-read your question and I read it too fast before. I now assume you want the total unit area, not the room areas. My answer is not correct for that because you would still want to see rooms defined.

I need the apartment unit area, which goes from the face of the corridor, outside face of sheathing of the exterior wall, and center of the demising walls.
i decided to try it the way you said one more time, with turning all of the walls Room Bounding off, and placing room separation lines.
i'm hoping the corners join, but right now i have almost 2000 errors about Wall and Room Separation lines overlapping
