Hi

I had that problem many times but never ask the question, Really want to know.

If i model a wall next to another wall (say wall tile wall next / parallel to stud wall) and join them together that usually automatically cut the door or window as it treats them as one wall.

Sometimes it fails to do it and I have to change the geometry to cut the second wall for opening, its an extra step. What is a reason for not cutting?

I also noticed it happens when the walls are in different phases so new wall will not join side by side with existing but alo in new phase.

The reason the opening doesn't cut is usually the two walls are not really touching each other.

Some door/window manufacturers use void extrusions in their families. It will cut only host wall – some family modification is need to make it cut more than one wall. When wall opening object is used in lieu of a void, it will cut all joined walls. Check your family, or upload it, so we can check it out for you.
