I have a high spec laptop that I use as my daily workhorse asa MEP Draftsman, but despite it having

(NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 graphic card,

i7-6700K CPU 4 Core 4.0GHz up to 4.2GHz 8MB Cache

RAM - up to 4 slots , 64GB DDR4 2400Mhz RAM

525GB Crucial MX300 M.2 SSD SATA - 530/510MBs

1TB 7200 rpm hard disk drive)

It 'REALLY' lags when I use Revit...when I say lags I'm talking 5-8 minutes at it's worst, of the dreaded blue wheel,,, when I check its performance in the task manager (screen shot attached) my CPU is at 6% my graphics card is at 3% everything else is around the same but wifi and ethernet are maxing out,,,,Oh I mostly model on BIM360 Design (Cloud) over wifi but even when I'm plugged into a network cable it does really behave any better. It even took 3 hours to just install (not download) a newer version of Revit the other day. I regularly clean up the laptop and run premium a antivirus program almost weekly to make sure its not those issues. It's 3 years old but it has always lagged...its really annoying,,,anyway I wanted to ask if any you have had similiar issues? or if can recommend anyone who can do a remote analysis on it? everyone technical I talk to doesnt understand the first thing about Revit's demand on computers so I'm at a loss. I don't mind upgrading but it just seems this machine just isnt working hard for all the output troubles I'm having?? Any feedback would be greatly appriciated

Thanks in advance

Simon Gray

PC is fine. Maybe it is your model. Are you managing it efficiently?

Run through my article as it lists some model management actions to take to speed things up.https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/rapidfire-revit-morrow-brady/

Beaucoupnice, no the model I work on are the same as the other guys with similiar machines and they dont have this issue, so I can safely rule that out

Your last post is the key to your question.   "...the other guys with similiar machines and they dont have this issue...".  Similar is not same.  Something with your machine, your setup or your personal use is the problem.

If your model is very well managed and is running as efficiently as can be then here's some other thoughts. Have you tried turning Revit's hardware acceleration on if its off or off if its on? Are all your drivers and Revit up to date? Is your computer specs exactly the same as everyone elses? BIM360 with big models will be slow - although it does depend on the model size. How big is the model? Do you have a local file on your PC ( i.e. ar you working collaboratively). Try deleting it and creating a new one. Try detaching the central file, its temp and backup files and creating a new central file. Do you have any files linked in - can they be removed? Don't work on wifi - its too slow. If still slow while hardwired, try replacing network cable. Update windows.
