please look at the image, i have glulams intersecting wall but the lines are not generated at the intersection, so there is gap when i switch to elevation view. see the bottom of glulam in elevation. is there any way how to get the lines to show other than manually drawing them in? i can not join wall and glulam elements, nor can i subtract glulam volume from the wall. shouldnt revit automatically cut wall with structural element penetrating it? doing this manually seems dumb.

With the structural framing family you have two options:

1.Create a void in the family and use cut tool in the project to cut the wall.(in the family: select an object, copy and paste to same location, with the pasted object still selected change it to void in properties and check ‘cut with voids when loaded’, load to your project).

2. In the family, make the object visible in coarse view and use join tool in your project (stick symbol in coarse view will not work anymore).

great, that did work out.

now is there a way to have it cut automatically on placement, simillar to how windows cut wall when inserted?

thanks

AFAIK it is not possible with structural framing families. For an object to automatically cut another, it needs to be a hosted family, and the host element needs to be cut (in the family).
