I have a one person architecture firm and am considering backing up my computer "in the cloud." How much data will that use on my internet connection? Is an unlimited data plan mandatory for a daily update of my network?

Depends on your server size, how much Mb of data is produced daily and the regularity of backups that you choose.
Best to speak to companies that sell cloud backup solutions.
