I have a detail item I made and I want to make anther one that is slightly different. How do I copy it without starting from scretch. I have duplicate and renaming the actual file with out success. Any thoughts.

Do you mean you have a detail view?  Those can be saved seperately then brought back under a different name and modified.  Read this:

Model views require another approach.

If you meant you have a detail family, then just save as with a new name and modify.
