I changed the material of the door frame in the family editor and it looks ok in the editor but in the model view (3d) it still has not changed. What am I doing wrong?

I have posted the answer many times if you had searched the threads.
THE PROJECT RULES!
Once a material exists in the project, whether it was created there or loaded via a family, that material definition will control no matter what you do with a family that uses it.
- Change the material in the project
- or delete the family in the project and purge the material in the project
- or change the material name in the family and reload it

I duplicated the family name (renamed it) and put a new material on the frame. Isnt that essentially the same thing? Then I reloaded it into the project.

Look at the materials in the project! The family name doesn't mean a thing, it is the material!

Of course you see the same name! Did you look at the material values?
Here is a suggestion.... Use a 3d view and paint that material on it in the project and see how it looks. Not right? .... Change the values oif the material to make it right. BTW - You don't say what the problem really is.... color? ... pattern? what? Patterns work like material.... THE PROJECT RULES. You can have a pattern called block but if defined like brick then it will look like it.

THe door frame appears brown in the model view. I selected white powder coat from the materials menu but it still looks brown in the 3d model view. In the family editor its white.

I thought I would be clever and just change the color of the material. Works for the 3d view but rendered or other visability, not.
