Why can you not make revit save automatically like you can with CAD?

Because revit isn't CAD. A save in revit depending on the file size can take a over an minute or so. It would annoy me if revit tried to save when i was in the middle of something.
for that reason you only receive warnings.

Yes, i always didn't like the file size of Revit files... but this is another topic for discussion.
