Is there a prefered workflow to this? just wanderign how pwople are tackling this task. do you just draw trusses in with detail lines? 

i have a 3d truss family and use it for simple roof sections  and thats easy as just adding one truss where i need it to show in section. but when the roof gets complicated the shape of trusses need to change every 2 feet or so and it gets very time consuming. 

i also tried to use built in revit truss extension but that thing is useless.

any advices on how to handle this?

There are 2D truss details available too. 

You don't say wood or steel trusses.

In most cases, one or two 3D trusses work but I have had some views where I needed to populate a whole area so I did that.  I simply put them on a workset that was normally off and only on in those section views. With the steel trusses I used, they automatically adapted to the span and on occassion I had to change truss depth - the extensions worked fine.

I would never add detail lines for this.
