AHHHHHH I have what i think is a simple task, just to stretch the length of all the components of a custom reception desk i am attempting to create. i want it to be 5'6", not 4'. Can't I just dimension between the two reference planes, and set the length to 5'-6", I am so confused, any advice is greatly appreciated. I attached the file itself, I am in 2017. thanks in advance ! maddy

Open family in family editor in 3D. Change parameter to 5'6" and identify the component that isn't moving. Go to plan, click Align tool and select the reference plane that it should be aligning to, then click the component face that should align with that reference plane. Once done a padlock symbol will appear, click it to lock that component to the reference plane then it should be ok.

Ok. I will take it forward with a few more steps.
1) Assuming you have a project with the family in it. Open project, select the family and in the ribbon at the top select "edit family"2) This will open up the family in the family editor.3) Make sure you have a 3D view open of the family.4) Now go to your ribbon and go to the Create Tab, go to the Properties part of the ribbon and click on the Family Types icon. This will open the Family Types window.5) Find the parameter that has the 4' in it and change it to 5'6". Click ok and see in your 3D view which part of the family does not move.6) Now go to the plan view. To go to plan view in your project browser, go to views ( at the top) and click on the "+" sign to open it up and then you will see the floor plans , click on the "+" sign to open that and you will see the plan. Click that to open it.7) In plan identify the part that was not moving, click the align tool (Modify tab - modify - align tool) and select the reference plane that it should be aligning to, then click the component face that should align with that reference plane. Once done a padlock symbol will appear, click it to lock that component to the reference plane then it should be ok.
