Hey all.  I just found the paint command.  But, I am having problems with surface color in general.  I am an intermediate user.

I go to the materials pallete, select a paint, load it into my project.  Then I copy it and try to make it a different color.  However, all of the paint colors customized this way all change together even if they have different names.

Also, on a related note, how do you assign materials to casework?  If I have, say, a 24" wide base cabinet family, I am saving it and changing its materials in a new family (24" wide base cabinet Oak Painted Green).

Now, my cabinets are painted green using the above method, but when I mess with paint colors as noted on second line, that can change my cabinet colors too.

Help?  Thank you...

When you duplicate a material and give it a different colour in the graphics tab, you also need to open the appearance tab, go to the top and duplicate that as well. You then need to change the finish in the appearance tab to the new type.Regarding materials in casework, it depends on how the casework is made as a family. If you select the casework in the model, look in properties to see if there is any parameters there with the name material in them. You should be able to change them there if they are an instance parameter. If they were created as a Type Parameter, you will need to select the casework in the model, go to properties, click edit type, to open the type parameters and see if there are any material parameters in there that you can change. If not then go back to the model, select the family and click edit family in the ribbon and open the family in the family editor. Click each 3D element and change its material. If you have already create the material in your project model use transfer project standards to bring the material into your family. Change all the 3d elements, save the family and import back into the project model.
