I am working on a project in revit which requires lighting to be added into the model. i was able to load the lighting families into revit but when i start placing the lighting it places the lighting onto the floor even though i am in the ceiling plan. Could it be because of wrong view range, if so could anyone guide me through it.

Alot of newbies don't understand that a ceiling plan  in Revit is NOT a copy of the floor plan and called a ceiling plan.   So did you actually create a Reflected ceiling plan from the Revit view dropdown?

IYou really should not see your floor in this view.  Most people only have their range set deep enough to just catch the door .... if that.

OK.... Under properties, in the view, does it say ceiling plan?  NOT the view name.

Is the ceiling in your model or is it in a linked model?

Has some one changed the work plane setting in the view?

Are you sure your lights will host to a ceiling?
