I have an employee running Revit 2017. We use a 3rd party addon for populating walls with metal stud framing. The studs that populate are specific Revit families that we have used for years across multiple versions of Revit with no issues. However, one particular stud is causing a huge issue. Whenever he tries to select that stud, Revit crashes and generates an error report to send to Autodesk. We have completely uninstalled our 3rd party addon to try to eliminate that as a possibility. Trying to "Purge Unused" also crashes Revit. Selecting other instances of that family elsewhere in the project is fine. For some reason, that one stud is the only stud in the project that crashes it.

I have him uninstalling and reinstalling Revit now, but I'm still looking for any feedback as to what could have caused this so we can hopefully prevent it from happening again in the future.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Follow the link below to an article offering some solutions. My gut feeling is your model is rooted and you will need to send it to Autodesk for repair. They can take anything from 2 hours up to 2 weeks based on sending models there in the last 6 months. They're a bit hit and miss but then again so is Revit sometimes.Revit hates other programs and will often crash when they try to push/pull content into them. Try to avoid where possible and do everything natively in Revit.I've never modelled studs in partition walls as I believe it is over-detailing and something the subcontractor can sort out onsite. I would just allow a thickness for the stud framing and label it frame. Providing typical plan junction details ensures construction follows your required methodologies.

If you are on subscription, then you can send the file to Autodesk to examine.
