I'm stumped.  I'm trying to model stairs in a multi story building of unequal floor heights.  I;v emodeled the stairs fine, I think, but I can't get the non-continuous handrails to work.  Obviously, along the wall edge of the stair I just need the stair to extend from landing to landing (with the appropriate extension).  Every time I do this the handrail will not follow the slope of the stair, it will model flat to the base level, even after I select the stair as the host.  I feelmI am missing a step or something, can anyone help on this?  I'm using Revit 2016.

Thanks in advance.

The sketch line for the handrail must be within the width of the stair run.   So, if your handrail is outside of that, like with the ballusters bounted to the face of the stringer, then you have to set the offset of these elements from the sketch line to get them outside the run.

Just a precision, at least that happened to me, you sketch the path for the handrail, and then "pick new host" the stairs. It'll level with the stairs. Then you can proceed with the offset form path (usually a negative value)
