I've got some elevation linework I'm fussing with. I have walls with reveals but the reveals are showing up too dark in elevation views. I'm changing individual lines to either invisible or weight #1 to de-emphasize the reveals. Unfortunately some of the lines I have edited are now showing through solid faces that are in front of them. I'm using Revit 2017.

You'll see in the attached images what I'm talking about. In the perspective view the lines are hidden correctly. In elevation the vertical lines crossing the awnings should be hidden by the awnings. Any idea why they aren't?

Thanks,

Neal

You write: " I'm changing individual lines to either invisible or weight #1".   How were these lines created and/or changed?  You need to state that.

The lines were created when I attached reveals to the walls (using Wall:Reveal command). I'm using Modify-Linework to change their lineweight.

OK...They are lines from the model elements, not lines you added.

As you found out, when you use the linework tool, it changes the whole line from the edge of the object, including hidden areas.  The solution to the problem is you have to adjust the line back to your canopy.  Their are grips on the end of the line when you first use the tool.  Use the grip and pull the one end back to the edge of the canopy.  Now you have half odf the line so use the tool again but this time pull the other end back.

I'm struggling with this... I see that I get grips at the ends of the lines when I edit the linework. I see I can drag them around. But I only have two grips, how do I "break" the line at the canopy and still have segments above and below the canopy?

I've been trying every combination I can think of. I even got it to work once but I don’t know how.

Image #1: I've got the line appearing only at the canopy (opposite of what I want)

Image #2: This is the most common result. I fiddle around with the grips and the line remains.

Image #3: Success! I did this once, not sure how, and I can't duplicate it.

Image #4: Line only below canopy.

This is maddening. It seems like I've got to move the grips in some order to some combination of the four points I'm working with (top of line, top of canopy, bottom of canopy, bottom of line) and then modify the linework I don't want to see to invisible but I have no idea how exactly to do it.

I feel like a monkey banging on a keyboard. If I do it enough I don't get Shakespeare, I get a line to go away.

Neal

Two lines - not one.   Please read my earlier post again.

WWhub - I got it! The breakthrough came when I realized that every time I clicked with the linework tool I as actually ADDING lines. I thought I was trying to add vertices to a single line. Once I made that mental leap it all made sense.

Regards,

Neal

Just to clarify, although it seems like it, you are NOT adding lines.  You are changing the model edge representation.   If you deleted the model element, that goes away.
